Hi,
So, went to get myself a glass of ribena. Crap nights sleep last night so I’ll have some sugar. I think. I shook the bottle. The cap came off. In our white kitchen. This is now my ceiling. I have tried soapy water, bleach and now painting over it. What he hell do I do?!? Help!

Its blackcurrant. You wont get that off for love nor money. It will need to be repainted I think although bleach might work.

I use Ribena to dye clothes, its very good

The red colour in blackcurrant is anthocyanins. Try blotting with gin or vodka.

Thank you. I have the same up my living room wall. I knew that one of the kids a sprayed something up the wall but couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t wipe off. This would have been droplets diluted in a sistema drink bottle.

I’ve tried bleach and painting over 😭 it worked on the walls but we have a wooden ceiling and I think the colour has soaked in. I’ll try some of that obliterate spray paint if a second coat of trade white doesn’t work 🤦‍♀️

Well if its wood sand it off then repaint.

BeyondThePage · 29/03/2018 13:25

Alcohol will get it off. vodka/gin - use to wet some kitchen towel, hold it on the stain for 30 sec and it should leach out into the paper.

Parentingissotough · 29/03/2018 13:35

Thank you @beyondthepage I’ll try that next time. I think one more coat of paint should just about sort it. That’ll be 5 🤦‍♀️

If stain comes through again get some stain blocker paint and then paint over that.

DS1 once spilled a glass of the stuff on his Grandfather's mostly cream and pale pink Afghan carpet Shock. Just after he'd finished explained to DS that he'd brought it back from Kabul in the 70s and it would have been a year's work for a whole family to make it, it would cost thousands today... And just after he told me 'Ah, he'll be FINE!' when I'd said 'Ribena, a 4 year old and a pale carpet isn't a great idea, you know!' Hmm

Incredibly, dilution with vodka and a lot of Vanish spray got most of it out. No idea about paintwork though - the stuff seems indestructible.
