Do the council make direct offers of housing !

Hello. I'm on the housing list ( due to overcrowding) and we have a bidding system where I bid for houses but don't even get close. What I want to know is do they still make direct offers to people even though there is a bidding system because I know they used to but not sure if they still do. If not then I think I won't stand a chance of getting a property ( even though we need to move for to over crowding)

I don’t know whether all councils are the same, but my brother was offered a flat without going through the bidding process as he was in a high priority category for that particular council.

Our home was allocated to us directly but my LA didn’t operate a bidding system at the time, since it’s been introduced they do not offer directly and I thought that was pretty standard now.

Have you been over your local housing policy with a fine tooth comb to confirm you have been correctly prioritised? We had a couple of bits that hadn’t been correctly applied but tbh ours was a massive fuck up and our MP became involved and an investigation was held into what had gone wrong. I don’t want to go into too much detail, it was incredibly stressful at the time.
