Robot vacuum cleaner

I'm in search of a robot vacuum cleaner for our relatively small downstairs, hardfloor.

I don't trust the Amazon reviews. So I'd like to ask if any of you have one, what brand and if you recommend it or not?

I know it won't be able to get everything and I'll need to do a quick hoover around the edges where it won't be able to get to.

I’ve been reading the reviews on various makes and models. I’ve been considering buying one for ages.
I realise a robot vacuum cleaner isn’t going to do everything (partly due to placement of furniture)! But it would be great to have something that would most of the floor, most of the time!

We have a big house with a mix of stone tile and dark wood floors, with short and shortish pile patterned rugs/carpets.

I’m a bit concerned about what some reviewers say about dark wood floors and patterned rugs with black bits... apparently the cliff sensors on the roomba see dark lines in wood or on carpets as a cliff, and stop working. Does anyone have experience of that?

*would do

fuzzyfozzy · 26/03/2018 16:28

Eufy doesn't have a drop sensor so bumbles around trying to get everywhere.

haggisaggis · 26/03/2018 16:35

How noisy are they? And those of you with pets - how do the pets cope? I quite fancy one, but we are not the tidiest so not sure it could cope. I also worry about the cats attacking it.

Fuzzy, thanks, I’ll take a good look at the Eufy Smile

Not loud at all.

TheBitterBoy · 26/03/2018 19:10

My floors have never been cleaner, seriously. My Roomba does a far better job than I ever did! I have two cats, one is totally indifferent to it, the other one hates it with a passion, but has learned to stay downstairs when it is working upstairs and vice versa.

TheBitterBoy · 26/03/2018 19:11

Bit disappointed really, I hoped they would ride around on it like those cats on you tube!

fuzzyfozzy · 26/03/2018 21:16

It makes me laugh, it senses me and never bumps into me. However it cheerfully barges into my big dogs, they skip around away from it, it's all exercise!

Lilonetwo · 27/03/2018 07:12

thebitterboy what model of Roomba do you have?

Infact all of you. Are the cheaper Roomba models any good? (£180-300 range) Or should I save up for one of the higher models?

educatingarti · 27/03/2018 10:52

My 650 is great but I'm more uncertain about versions cheaper than this.

TheBitterBoy · 27/03/2018 14:20

@Lilonetwo - I have a 605 which cost me about £230 from Appliances Direct (they are brilliant by the way, great customer service). It's a very basic model - you press the button to set it going, it goes back to its dock either when it runs out of charge (around 45 mins to 1 hour) or when the bin is full (it did this a lot when I first got it Blush )
Mine can make it over thresholds of doors pretty well (I have a couple of high-ish ones) and if you clear the floors it does a fabulous job. It is worth bearing in mind that you need to clean the brushes fairly frequently if you have long hair (I do mine once a week takes a couple of minutes), and the filter needs replacing about every three months.

I bought an entry level iRobot Roomba and it's amazing. For the size the suction is amazing my and it compares to our Miele cylinder. Best tech ever bought for time saving. He's called Rodney and is on Facebook if you'd like to make friends?😢
It was on special offer for about £200 and thought it was was worth a punt. I didn't want it too complicated as more to go wrong. You have to set up the area before he could go and I have cats so this is tricky to do if it Stratton while I was out. Plus I have horrors stories of pet owners with them who had on timer overnight. Pet then pops and people wait in on morning to have poo smeared all over their house Doesn't bear thinking about! I therefore decide when Rodney goes on!! If
