Why do my freshly washed pjs smell like varnish??

I’ve been smelling varnish/paint fumes for the past couple of weeks in the morning and night, but we’ve done no decorating or anything so just wrote it off to being pregnant!

Today I took my clothes off the maiden/dryer and noticed it’s just this one pair of pjs that stink like paint fumes! Freshly washed and dried??

Does anyone know wtaf this could be? No other clothes from the same wash smell like this..?!

What kind of fabric are they made of? Several years ago I had a shirt that was a polyester blend and it had a weird chemical-ish smell that would not go away, no matter how many times I washed it. It gave me the creeps so I threw it out.

Yeah these are a thin polyester and cotton and it does give me the creeps! It seems to be worse after washing!

I’ve noticed exactly the same with a new pair of PJs I have from M&S. Just checked the label - polyester/cotton mix.

Really @dryshampooer ?? What are you going to do? Mine are mamas and papas?! How weird...
