Memory foam pillow leaching horrible yellow stains

DH has a memory foam pillow. It’s in a zip-up allergy-fighting pillowcase, and then in another pillowcase. But it still leaches vile yellow colour that stains the white pillowcases and makes it look as if he’s dribbling something revolting. Or doubly incontinent.

I’m soaking the cases in bleach but does anyone else have this problem and have they found a solution to it?

Are you sure it's the memory foam?

My DH leaches yellow stuff! Honestly, his pillow case always discolours and goes yellow - nothing to do with his pillow - it's just him.

He's perfectly clean and showers/hair washes daily, and doesn't use hair products, so I don't know why it happens. Sweaty head, maybe?

I find soaking in vanish before washing the pillow cases helps, but ultimately he does seem to ruin pillowcases. Buying a spare set of p/cases helps prolong the life of a duvet set, or just replacing top pillowcases with plain white.

It's not the pillow, it's him.

It's sweat! Wash weekly and soak in Vanish first.

There was a thread about this a while ago with a photo of a DHs side of the bed sheets compared to the DWs. It was yellow AF.

Could it be the mixture of memory foam and sweat? He’s very clean and fragrant, honest. Not at all a polecat.

Gum disease?

We sweat a lot during the night. As your head is the bit that sticks out from the bedding, your head sweating is more effective at cooling you down than covered bits of the body. The yellowing is due to oxidation when the sweat reacts with the air - it is perfectly natural and not a sign of being dirty or anything unsavoury.

My DH does this. He washes his hair daily but still he manages to "burn" every pillow and pillowcase with his sweat. They look like they have been toasted with an iron! 😮 I think he might have a very acidic PH or something? I always wondered. Glad to see he is not alone! 😯
