Tiny grey/black dots on white washing...what could it be?

Did a white wash yesterday - mostly bedding on the usual 50 degree cycle I use for whites. But it came out with tiny little pin-head sized black dots all over it? Does anyone know what might have caused it?

I've done a service wash today (sorry planet!) and have now stuck it back in on a 40 degree cycle to see if that gets rid of it, but would like to avoid in future.

Did they come out?

Yes thank goodness! Was our Egyptian cotton king-size duvet cover so not cheap to replace.

Am now wondering if it was dust from a duster in the previous wash.

And also, what the hell has happened to my life that I'm spending time posting on Mumsnet about laundry !! Sad

When did you last clean your washing machine? I do mine once a week to stop mould growing or dust/dirt getting left in there

I tend to get grey build up around the door rubbers from the detergents. You way want to check and give it a wipe over. The higher temperature must have loosened something from somewhere. Also check detergent draw.

@CasparMum as in put it on empty with washing powder on a 90° cycle? (What I call a service cycle) - I try and rememeber every six weeks. Should I be cleaning the seals around the door with a cloth too? Not done it in 6 years ! They look and smell clean enough.

@chloesmumtoo will give it a wipe around tomorrow- thanks Smile
