Toy storage

We've been saying for ages we need to get DSD more storage for her toys. We've just moved into a new house with more space so have more options for storage.

How do you store your DC's toys? Currently she has a few of those plastic stackable storage boxes. I'm wondering what other options could work too. The plastic boxes get full so quickly with bulky toys, especially the board games and Lego etc.

We have Ikea kallax units, some with storage boxes in, some left open for games or books.

Ikea Kallax or Trofast ranges for toys, large underbed storage boxes for books (also Ikea) and we have a large fabric freestanding basket for dd's dressing up things.

Samewitches · 15/03/2018 11:34

Should have said the basket is from TK Maxx and they have lots of other nice small storage options, treasure chests, trunks and lots of different sized baskets etc.

Yep kallax here too, with the cheap fabric boxes (a lot more hard-wearing than I thought they would be!)

I’ve made some of those circular drawstring bags for my grandchildren. Like a big circlular mat , they could play Lego on it or with the soft toys, then at tidyup time ( sorry, I’m an infant teacher!) pull the drawstring and it looks like a big PE bag! If you don’t sew, I think you can buy them.

We have a grey kallax with wicker baskets in so it looks vaguely sophisticated Grin some of the spaces are free for stunt wooden toys. The plastic tat is hidden in the baskets.

Another vote for the Ikea kallax unit - DD has a 4x4 unit, the bottom half is filled with eight fabric boxes that she keeps her toys in. The top half is split between book storage and being used as a display space for whatever toys/constructions she is currently playing with.

We don't have ds's toys in boxes as I hate that. They all go on the floor, along the wall and in the bay window.

CurlyRover · 16/03/2018 11:49

After I wrote this post I immediately thought of the Ikea kallax storage as we used to have them back when DSD had less toys. Then we moved and didn't have the room but now we've moved again I'd love to get that sort of storage thing again.

It's great so many other people are using them!

Coco yours does sound sophisticated and probably looks a bit nicer in the living room than the standard fabric boxes.

We still can't decide what colour to go for. We currently have a white TV stand, white bookcase but then a wooden Ikea hol storage table. So do we go for the wooden in keeping with the storage table (our blanket storage) or white to go with the rest?

@cocoloco87 Grin @ stunt wooden toys! I have recently ordered the grimms pastel rainbow for our toy storage shelves. At least it will make me smile!

LittleWingSoul · 17/03/2018 20:21

And OP, I would say white is nicest in case you can't match the wood effect to your existing ikea furniture. Then brightly coloured drona fabric boxes (or neutral wicker ones, which are a bit pricier). Perhaps having different coloured boxes would create a vague system I.e. soft toys in one, kitchen toys in another, lego in the next one...

WellTidy · 17/03/2018 20:36

We have GLTC northcote and ikea stuva mixed. White finish.

CurlyRover · 18/03/2018 11:46

Thanks very much all. We went for the kallax 4x4 in white and then grey and blue drona boxes to go with our living room colours Smile

CurlyRover · 18/03/2018 15:00

Thanks Coco it looks great and feels like we are reclaiming our living room as everything will have its place soon.
