Feel like house is never clean enough

I feel like my house is never clean enough no matter how much I clean and tidy. I work part time, DH works full time and we have 2 dc so they make a mess and time is limited but we try our best to keep it looking as neat and clean as possible. I can't stand mess!
It just never feels enough, I feel like it still looks dirty.
On an average day this is what I do:
Clean kitchen including surfaces, washing up, sweep floor, mop after breakfast and dinner in the evening
Clean dining table
Mop, sweep, Hoover hard floors in hallway playroom. Hoover living room (carpet)
Dust surfaces
Air rugs outside weather permitting

Hoover upstairs and clean bathroom twice a week. If I have more time I will do these more often. Bathroom gets a quick once over most days, I do a deep clean twice a week including scrubbing floor and toilet.
It just always looks dirty to me. I can't let one day slip or it spirals. Anyone else feel no matter how much they do it's not enough? I feel I could mop hard floors all day long and never do enough.

You mop and hoover daily which is already more than most who work manage OP.

My house gets swept daily but only where it needs sweeping...mopping is once a week. I wipe marks/splashes with a hand cloth and spray.

That sounds clean enough! It's not good for kids to grow up in sterile environments, it can cause allergies to develop.

If you are doing all those things then don't panic, your house seems more than clean enough to me. Someone wrote on Instagram yesterday CLEANING YOUR HOUSE WITH CHILDREN IS LIKE BRUSHING YOUR TEETH WHILE EATING OREOS. 😂😂😂Think about it the next time you want to throttle one of them for the relentless mess they make.
I make sure I clean the kitchen and bathroom thoroughly every day but the rest of the house just gets tidied up and aired daily and then deep cleaned once a week (one room a day). It always looks ok and I have 3 kids under 10 and a messy cockapoo puppy! Don't fret and enjoy your children, mess and all 😍

When you say it looks dirty, how do you mean? Do you have hard water? I do our bathrooms once a week each. They need it by the time I get to them but not shamefully so. What are you basing your standards on?

When I get like this about mess it’s a symptom of general stress.
You are already doing way more than most people and way beyond any rational assessment of what is “necessary”. It does seem a bit obsessive so is there other stuff going on with you?

DenPerry · 07/03/2018 19:31

Wow you do more than me and I'm home all day. I have lived in houses that have never looked clean no matter what I've done though, so it could be that rather than it actually being dirty.

Bellamuerte · 07/03/2018 19:40

My house is never clean enough. The difference is I don't care! I hoover and dust perhaps once a week at most, I probably only clean the bathroom about once a month. I seem to spend most of my time just keeping up with laundry?

grovebeach · 07/03/2018 20:28

bella don't get me started on laundry. That's a whole other thread... there's only four of us who live here but I feel like my dream house would include two washing machines!
Yes I probably am a bit obsessive over it. I grew up in a filthy, messy house (I guarantee worse than normal day to day family life) and I was embarrassed to have friends over. I never want that for my kids.

Oh grove I can understand that. Do you visit your friends houses? Could you (privately) judge them by your high standards to reassure yourself that we’d they’d all come up short?

Jb61 · 21/01/2020 19:19

I totally understand, however i think it's because i grew up in clutter my parents had and mom still has stuff everywhere i am always checking and double checking that my house is clean and uncluttered. I can't take a nap if I'm tired because i feel like I'm supposed to be doing something so no matter how tired i am i look for things that need to be cleaned or organized. Then going to bed at night i think of all i either didn't get done or what i need to do making me tired the next day. It's exhausting

Wavey123 · 22/01/2020 10:51

If it still doesn’t look clean after that much cleaning which sounds like a lot, could it do with a bit of redecorating?
