Childrens mattress how often to replace?

How often are you supposed to change children's mattresses? I have two cot bed matresses which I have been using for approx. 5 years. With 2 children they have had the usual substances spilled on them.

Both children currently have a vomiting bug. I have stripped the beds numerous times and noticed the mattress was grubby. There was a white protective cover over the mattress when washed came up well but the mattress looked a bit yellowed. How often do you all and should you all replace. TIA

whilst they are giving the sleeper adequate support and are the right size why would you throw away. Just clean them.

My eldest is 10 and has had his mattress since 3/4 years old. It seems fine.

Middle two both had new mattress last year. One upgraded from toddler to single and the other had mattress free with new bed.

Baby had new cot mattress when he was born (now 16months)

We do have a toddler bed matress from dc3 but will see what its like when little one ready to move from cot
