Dust - why is my house so dusty?

I hoover most days and damp dust most surfaces. I did this yesterday and the tv and stand are covered again today. Am I doing something wrong? Any ideas?

Is your house very old? Beside a busy road? Ours is both and is very dusty as a consequence.

My old house was very dusty, we moved and with the same level of housework it is so so much less dusty. Drastic solution though Grin

It’s a 1930s house with large rooms and ceilings. Even the floors get dusty. Ergh- it’s old dust isn’t it??

I think you can buy anti static polish for polishing those plastcky\type surfaces , TVs etc. it works better than most.

I damp dust to help keep it out of my hair! I also have an old stone house with cats!!

Thanks will try that. I’ve declittered so there’s not loads of stuff. I just don’t know where it comes from!

Though you do know that most of it is human dust! Our skin!! Shock Grin

Have you got old radiators? Our looked really clean when we moved in, when we put the heating on the dust level almost doubled. I managed to look inside and underneath, they were gross. Caked in dust. Igot one of those radiator dusters and that helped, but the best (yet messy) solution was using a hairdryer to blow in and around it. You should have seen what came out - it was Household sporn worthy :)

Also, carpets and our brushed cotton sheets have contributed.

Do you have any open fires or woodburners?

ppeatfruit · 13/02/2018 14:02

We have the old fashioned radiators, we like the look of them but yes they are dust collectors. I haven't noticed more dust when they're on though! We have a wood burner too so really we have no hope for a dust free house. Lovely and cosy though!! Grin
