Thinking of buying one and wondered if anyone had any recomendations. They seem to vary in price hugely. I have looked at the shark portable, does anyone know if it is any good?

ooh, me too melrose, i was just looking into buying a shark steam blaster. i am being seduced by the infomercial!
i would also be interested to see what others say.

I have borrowed one and find it great for spot stains but the carpet attachment doesn't really make much difference. Now if I could be bothered to use the fine nozzle attachment and meticulously clean the whole carpet ..well it would be fab!But it does such a fine line it's only really worth it for small stains.

Did clean the grout on the hearth though, that was worthwhile.

ggirl, have you tried it on hard floors, lino, laminate etc?
we have just got a cat and i am conscious of the area outside the litter tray. i can sweep and mop, but i just know there must be a gazillion germs hiding invisibly!

Got one on Sparkly's recommendation.
From the daily Telegraph
Especially good on sinks and stoves
