It got burnt. I've got all the burnt on grunge out of it but the bottom is stained black. Does anyone know how I can restore its normal colour?

Yep. You put boiling water in and a scoop of biological washing powered. Bring it to a boil but not enough to boil over. 2-3 mins and all the charring will come off.

Astonish oven and cookware cleaning paste and a scouring sponge

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 04/02/2018 20:01

Try adding some biological, washing powder and water and boiling it up. Then washing clear. It's worked for me before.

Dissolve a cap /2 tbsp of bleach in water in the stained pan overnight.

In the morning, after pouring away the bleach mix & rinsing well, scrub the pan out again with hot soapy water.

Oooh, will try the bio powder. I heated oil in a saucepan, enough for sauteeing, not frying. Dd1 asked me something, dd2 started to cry. A while later I realised the pan was on fire. Had been soaking with soda crystals.

Bluelady · 05/02/2018 18:09

Thanks for the suggestions. The boiling with bio washing powder has been tried, the base of the pan is still discoloured. Astonish next.

Astonish paste works great. I use it a lot

Mytimenow · 05/02/2018 18:12

Full fat coke, cover base of pan and heat on hob, this has rescued many a stainless steel pan for me!

Tubbybells · 05/02/2018 18:14

Try some citric acid. It works brilliantly to descale kettles. You should be able to get it in power from an international supermarket.
Just ensure you have cleared all the bleach away first.

I was wondering about Coke having seen its miraculous effect on a loo bowl. Right, that's next while I await the delivery of the Astonish paste. All this for a bloody saucepan!

You could use a steam cleaner with a nozzle if you have one.
Or i swear by boiling water and scrub with pink pads.

dementedpixie · 06/02/2018 15:24

You can buy astonish in wee cheap shops like home bargains, Poundland, etc

Bluelady · 08/02/2018 20:01

The Coke worked a treat! Thanks a million, Mytimenow.

You're welcome Bluelady, I have a habit of getting distracted and have had many a burnt saucepan to rescue!

Barkeeper's friend is great on steel pans too.
