Scout shirt washing

Hello. My son has moved up to Scouts now. My question is how do you wash the shirt when it has badges on it? His cubs uniform the badges went on jumper over a polo shirt so it was only aired as usually not worn. Polo shirt was washed!

Manufactured state do not wash shirt with badges on.......

Erm I just chuck my husbands scout shirt in the machine! So far so good. You could wash the badges before sewing them on x

I just turn it inside out and wash in normal dark wash. Have had no problems.

The label on DS's shirt says to wash before putting badges on but that doesn't mean to not wash it once badges are on.

I am amazed you never had to wash his cub jumper. Did he never wear it/take it on camp?

I wash and tumble dry.

Pah! had no idea!! Ds's (now explorer) just goes in washer, never had a problem.

I’ve washed scout shirt with badges on and had no problems

Yup, just goes in the wash in this house. But then I also copydex badges so am probably not the best person to ask if you want a proper housewife-y answer.

Thank you ladies. I had a housewife go at applique seeing the badges on jumper for cubs as I have a sewing machine. Imagine my joy when leader asked if I could reuse the scout name and area badges. 3 in total. Unpicker to the ready!

We transfer all the staged activity badges too in our troop. But then I am the treasurer so don't like spending too much money Grin

I just chuck DS’s and mine into the wash. I have a black District badge and it doesn’t leak- nor does the black poppy badge.
I sew all the badges as we have occasional badges which are meant to come off after a year (so I should take of my Cubs 100 badge 😳).
We also have to transfer over all the stages badges although DS is about to get his 75 Nights Away badge so I won’t have to take his last one off to put on his new explorers shirt. I will have to take off his old chief scout gold award from his scout shirt but I didn’t sew on the new one cause I knew I would have to put both onto his explorer shirt!

Throw it in the wash, I do them on a fairly low 30 degrees, but apart from bedding and towels I do everything that low otherwise, some how I shrink stuff!
