New Ironing Board - spend £ or £££?? WWYD?

My ironing board from student days has finally died

Do I just buy another cheap and cheerful one as they are all much of a much ness

Or is it worth it to invest in a £80-100+ Brabantia type board??

I have been going round the bend reading different reviews which all contradict each other.
And yes - I do need to iron some stuff (though I do my best to avoid it)

I have one of the £80 Brabantia
Boards and its great, very strong and sturdy - you can tell its built to last, reaches a great height so absolutely no stooping no matter how tall you are, and nice and wide so ironing is quicker as you can cover more area without having to constantly readjust things on the board. It also has a dedicated section for putting a steam generator iron and tank on.

BUT (there had to be a but), unless you do all your ironing in one go each week or unless you can leave the board up in the utility room (so basically if you iron as you need everyday/every few days) you may find it an absolute pain to keep putting up and down, whilst it is not hard to operate, it is large and definitely more cumbersome to handle than a smaller board.

Now that i have downsized houses, I have 2 boards, the Brabantia for Ironing bedding or other house linens and a smaller £40 for everyday/ironing as I go ironing.

Brabantia one. It is much better for you and your back. Easier to iron on a solid board too. I have had mine for about 20 years. I hanker after a Singer table top one.

@e1y1 - I iron every couple of weeks (ie when I have to) and try to do everything I can so the heavier one would be ok

Absolutely get a Brabantia one if you can afford it. I've had various cheap ones in furnished rented flats and houses and they've been poor. I bought our Brabantia ironing board 15 years ago and it is as sturdy as the day I bought it and I don't expect to have to replace it. Buy one with as big a surface area as you can, as that will quicken your ironing. I think ours takes a C size cover. I buy a replacement cover about once a year/18 months.

I think always go for the best You can afford for long term purchases or it's a false economy.
