Washing new duvet covers

If you brought a new duvet cover, Would you wash t before you put it on the bed? I must admit I'd only do it if it was really stiff fabric... having a friendly debate here

I usually do wash bedding before use, otherwise it doesn't smell right.

I think you are supposed to wash all fabric things as they are full of all sorts of chemicals to protect them from bugs, and to make the fabric feel better, but generally I don't.

I wash anything (bedding, towels, clothes etc.) before I use it as the material always feels and smells better afterwards

I don't wash new clothes, but I do wash towels and bedding, just to soften it up a bit and make it smell fresher.

Thank you for your replies...
I hate to make more work for myself and will endeavour to change my ways

Nope.

I do. I always think it feels a bit grimy otherwise.

If it's been in a sealed plastic package, I often can't be bothered to wash it before I use it (mainly because I usually buy new bedding because it is needed so the whole point is to take it home and use it immediately)

However, if it is not wrapped (so just folded in a fabric bag with a cardboard label for example) then I will wash it first just because there has been nothing to protect it whilst it has been on the shop floor so there's a higher chance of it being dirty/dusty etc.

I usually do, as our bed is large and I find that all bedding has usually been folded many times to fit it in the packaging. I like bedding to be ironed, so I wash it straightaway so that it can be more easily ironed.

I don't wash clothes before wearing them though.

I don't wash them, or new clothes for myself but I do wash new clothes for the baby.
