I've always gone for Tefal Ultraglide it rally does 'just glide' and it's not too expensive either

i have heard a lot of good things about those 'steamer' irons that are connected to a water supply. I think they are mainly useful if you have a lot of ironing to do - it apparently speeds up the job a lot.

I bought the cheapest one I could find when mine gave up - 9 quid from asda. I have to say that for the occasions I use it (weddings etc) it has done the job.

I am revealing far too much about how often I iron here, but I now recall that when the 9 pound iron died (after about 5 yrs) I did loads of research on 'Which?' and ended up buying a Tefal Ultraglide too. THe only criticism of it was that it is so smooth that it doesn't feel like an 'iron'.

Apparently though Rowenta is the iron of choice for professionals. And as I remember the two makes Rowenta and Tefal had pretty much cornered the market in the top Which category.

However, anecdotal evidence would suggest that if you do a lot of ironing, the steamer is the one to go for.

thanks for the advice! I don't do as much ironing as I should - you don't want to see my ironing pile! - so I might give the ultraglide a try.

Bought a Bosch about six months ago. Didn't even know they did irons prior to that. About the same price as my previous Tefal and absolutely brilliant.

If you get it from Argos and don't like it, you can take it back within 14 days!
