Anyone use Ocado home delivery? How does it compare to Sainsbury's? Thanks

I use them regularly . I find my overall cost slightly higher but the dates on meat etc better . I use Ocado most the time and switch to Sainsbury’s when they send me money off vouchers .

Dontbuymeroses · 15/01/2018 21:30

I use both, Ocado have loads of things that Sainsbury's don't. Some of the Sainsbury's basics are too good a bargain to pass up imo.
Once a month I stock up and have both lists on the go at the same time so I can buy the offers.
Delivery wise Ocado are the ones that never let me down though.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 15/01/2018 21:35

I have only ever used Ocado as a home delivery, no other supermarket, but I have found them reliable and the customer service excellent. Over Christmas and New Year there was a spate of basics being out of stock (one time I couldn't get any milk in 2l cartons) but the quality of the Ocado own brand stuff is generally really good and I find I spend less than I would going to a physical store. They pricematch with Tesco as well.

SnackSnackEatAndCrave · 15/01/2018 21:35

We do both, and Ocado is such a better standard of delivery! They text you before the order arrives if anything is missing so you can pick up anything vital on your what home from work for example, whereas with Sainsbury's you just wait in suspense for the disappointment of no ham for sandwiches in the morning!
Ocado put the food in date order on the receipt which I find really useful, and I agree that the dates are usually better. A lot of ocado basics are comparable price wise to any main supermarket and much better quality imo.
Do still get a few Sainsbury's orders for basics, and most baby items (nappies, wipes, toiletries) are much cheaper than Ocado.

Ocado is so much better

DontCallMeBaby · 15/01/2018 21:46

Ocado are great. Very rarely any missing items because of the way they do stock control, and the drivers are always really pleasant and helpful (apparently this is because they recruit for customer service skills and teach them to drive a van if need be).

Coffecake99 · 15/01/2018 22:40

Thanks everyone looking forward to my delivery now 😀

Ocado’s home delivery is flawless, but to me a lot of the “Ocado” own brand food (which of course is Waitrose label) is really poor quality.

Overall, food and price wise, Sainsbury’s wipes the floor with Ocado, but as mentioned upthread Ocado’s actually delivery is great (mind I think Sainsbos has only been late once, but do only use it a handful (prob more but not sure how many) times a year as I mainly go in to the supermarket for shopping.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 16/01/2018 17:30

I love Ocado on the VERY rare occasion that there is a problem they are quick to remedy it and substitutions are incredibly rare. I haven't used Sainsbury's for years but when I did i had substitutions every time as well as cancelled deliveries, incorrect charging...

Sammysquiz · 16/01/2018 18:22

Ocado’s delivery isn’t great here, but I do find their app good, so placing the order is quicker than with Sainsbury’s. You also can add things to an existing order easily, whereas Sainsbury’s makes you check out again.

I’ve just done my first Tesco’s online shop which I was pleased with - their app is also v good.

Taffeta · 16/01/2018 18:28

I did Sains online for 5 years but totally swapped to Ocado about 18 months ago as

I prefer their stock - such a variety

I have free delivery ( various errors they’ve made they give me a free Smart Pass )

They are much more reliable - never late delays turn up in bad weather etc

Very few if any subs as system is live so you can see what’s out of stock as you order

They text you any subs before they come so if you’re passing a supermarket you can get the missing item before your delivery arrives

Jarstastic · 18/01/2018 22:41

Ocado super reliable with delivery, with one hour slots and no substitutions, they are also quick to refund, or if you notice in time and tell the driver not charge you in the first place with the odd item that's split/broken.

Fantastic range of products. They also have Waitrose own brand, and I've also been experimenting with Ocado's own brand and it's pretty good.

FlukeSkyeRunner · 19/01/2018 07:13

I've done both. Ocado are the gold standard when it comes to delivery and customer service, but you pay for it. Sainsbury's are much cheaper. Asda are the best value for money for the sort of things I buy.

mommybear1 · 19/01/2018 07:18

Just to add they also price match and if you could buy your shopping cheaper elsewhere they give you a voucher for the difference- sometimes it's been 1p other £2. Great customer service.

JaimesGoldenHand · 19/01/2018 08:51

I would also add that if you buy an Ocado annual pass, the delivery charge works out very reasonably (assuming at least one shop a week).

didireallysaythat · 20/01/2018 21:35

But the best thing (for me) about ocado is you can book the same slot every week or fortnight (probably less frequently too but I'm not certain) and mark your items as things you want every two weeks or whatever and a week before your delivery your basket is autofilled.

Coffecake99 · 20/01/2018 23:22

Had first delivery. They rang to say van had broken down and would be 2 hours late 😮. They arrived 15mins late in the end. Not a great start but pleased with delivery and like the app and the fact you can add items without having to check out again.
