household maintenance traumas

I live in a nice Victorian house in a lovely town - so far so good - but am increasingly vexed by the number of things that go wrong/don't work properly - ie. a slowly draining basin, rubbish plumbing under the sink, a scary garden tap which wouldn't turn off this week etc - What faults/irritationsdo you live with or put up with in your house, or do you get things sorted right away ?

We have no hot water in our bathroom

we do have an electric shower, but the hot water for bath/basin came from a small calor gas boiler which just served those 2 taps. It now won't light and the corgi engineer couldn't get it to light either. DC's bathroom has hot water, ours needs re-doing anyway (when we can afford it) so in the meantime we just live with it!

This is a constant discussion in our household. My husband always blames me for 'making' him buy an older house when he preferred modern ones with no maintenance, and he spends nearly every weekend fixing things or doing DIY. Hey ho.

We have a modern house but quite a few of our internal doors don't shut properly. dh knows why they don't shut (something to do with the frames I think) but won't do anything about it so we just live with it. I have got used to wedging the bathroom door of the en-suite shut when the kids are watching tv in our room and I want to get ready and there is a certain way of shutting ds2's bedroom door to make it stay closed. It has its advantages though - none of the children could get our bedroom door open for quite some time which made for quite a good lie-in on a Sunday .
