Removing burnt marmalade/sugar from hob

I made a batch of marmalade yesterday and am now faced with burnt-in sugar on my hob (stainless steel). I've tried all the usual cleaners including bar keepers friend to no avail. I don't want to attack it with steel wool as it will scratch it - any ideas?

fil had to claim on house insurance for this on his induction hob. Not sure about stainless steel though

Try a paste of bio washing powder and warm water. Cover with cling film so it doesn't dry out. The enzymes should help lift it off. Alternatively, use Oven Pride.

hot water should dissolve burned sugar....that's how I clean caramel pans.

for a hob i'd leave a damp cloth on the burn over night, and see how that goes.

wowfudge and MsHomeSlice, I shall try a combination of your ideas, thank-you.
