Mysterious clothes bleaching?

Hi - every so often I'll get clothes out of the wash after they've been through the dryer and there will be a line of bleach or random bleached spots on the clothes? It's ruined some of mine and DPs favourite clothes Angry am I putting too much powder in or something? I never use bleach and very rarely use oxiclean (as in every 4 months if that?) so I'm really baffled and frankly getting peed off!

Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance

Are you sure it is bleached? Powder that is not being rinsed / too much powder in a wash, can leave spots and lines on clothing, that is often not noticed until they are dried and it does look like a bleach mark. It comes out, but it is annoying and my machine does it when I overdose with powder!

I had this problem and a new washing machine was how I solved it. Sorry.

Washing powder contains oxygen bleach, which is colour safe, but is still capable removing colour (this is how it removes dye based stains (tea coffee wine etc). So if lumps of powder are getting caught up in clothing and not being fully dissolved in water, then this could be bleaching your items.

Things to check, how are you dosing (drawer or stratight in to drum), if drum change to drawer. Is your water pressure good to flush all the detergent cleanly through to the drum. Is the powder old or has it got damp? If your detergent is caked/lumpy in the box, then this can be hard for the water flow in the drawer to dissolve it before it enters the drum, so it can enter in lumps which will then sit on your clothes, if so discard your detergent and buy fresh.

Also run your washer on a clean cycle, if your machine doesn’t have one, just use the longest hottest wash it has with the drum empty, if you have never done this, then you may need to do it a few times. Also take out the drawer and wash in sink or dishwasher and clean the cavity where the drawer sits.

I have lost lots of clothes lately because of the same. I use liquid in drum wash. But lots of clothes have came out with bleached colour and holes. I’ve sadly lost some of my favourite tops due to this. I thought that they might have been shredded by the drum but its tiny holes within the bleached area. Argh

I have bleach marks on a couple of t shirts and they are all on the front at around waist level. I surmised it was due to leaning against the kitchen bench or sink after I'd been spraying cleaners!
