Ok, last year I got really into Flylady and it was going well. Then came Christmas and the 11+ and it all fell apart and has stayed fallen apart. How do I get going again? Do I really have to go back to shining the sink and nothing else? Help!!!!!

I think we do... mine all fell apart about last October when my G/dad fell ill.

I have tried soooo many times to just "jump back in" but it never works.

You wanna start baby steps with me?

tortoise · 23/04/2007 11:51

I don't exactly do Flylady but try and do the daily mission and am on FLY thread each day when i can. Its good for motivation and we are friendly bunch.

mummy2ashton · 23/04/2007 12:03

i will do babysteps with you too if you like

seeker · 23/04/2007 23:38

Sorry - only just got back to the computer. Yes, lets be baby step buddies, as I'm sure flylady herself would call it! Shall we start tomorrow? I've just shined my sink, actually.

seeker - I used to fly too but lost my mojo when home life got bad. So want to get back into it though, ill you be on fly threads tomorrow?

Flamesparrow · 24/04/2007 19:40

Done nothing so far

hippipotami · 25/04/2007 09:39

I too fell off the 'flylady wagon' last year. I was under a different name then though...

Am seriously considering starting again. Will shine my sink tonight and report back in.

What have you guys done?

NormaStanleyfletcher · 25/04/2007 09:43

What is this shining sink of which you speak?

Fly looks to scarey to me, and all of those lists!

Can I join in with baby steps too?

hippipotami · 25/04/2007 11:43

It is one of the baby steps on flylady iirc. You start with getting yourself dressed (to the shoes!!) and the next step is shining your sink before going to bed.

Must admit, never actually shone a sink before but need to start somewhere...

Flamesparrow · 25/04/2007 11:47

The sink shining is what holds it all together for me.... when I lapse in that it all falls apart

NormaStanleyfletcher · 25/04/2007 12:49

OK - I will try to shine the sink tonight.

NormaStanleyfletcher · 26/04/2007 10:26

I ended up cleaning the whole kitchen (it needed it though ). It was very nice to come down to a shining sink though.

mishw · 27/04/2007 14:01

What is this flylady thing?

BabiesEverywhere · 27/04/2007 16:42

FLY Lady

mishw · 27/04/2007 18:55

Thanks BE - but please tell me this is a joke right?!

BabiesEverywhere · 29/04/2007 09:29

Well the actually FLY Lady site is a bit americian and chipper, if you know what I mean.

But the principle is sound. i.e.

Do some house work everyday and build up regular routines which work for you and your home.

Don't beat yourself up about not doing everything right or right away.

Accept that a messy cluttered house took years to get that way and will not be cleared up over night.

Understand that a small mess left will gather more mess, like leaving mail on a table (hotspots)

You can't organize clutter, you can only sort (chuck or find a home for) it

The real key to a clean house is to clean as you go and stay on top of it and really chuck out things you don't need/love.

The above words, are my take on the FLY system.

It really helps me be motivated, when I looked around our home full to the brim with clutter...now I am nearly sorted and I feel so much better

HTH

BabiesEverywhere · 29/04/2007 09:30

actual not actually

eemie · 29/04/2007 09:36

BE that's a really good summary! I need to go back to first principles. Will dress to shoes today. That's where it starts to fall apart for me.

BabiesEverywhere · 29/04/2007 10:14

Thanks eemie

mishw · 29/04/2007 12:58

Thanks againb BE

Kind of what I try and do anyway - it just sounded really funny on the website!

BabiesEverywhere · 29/04/2007 14:26

No problem, it does sound odd on the American website

I think the FLY system is what people who are naturally great at running a home do. The rest of us have to learn to do things properly.

One of my friends always has a wonderful clean, tidy and uncluttered 'show house' home, despite working full time and her DD.

I could not do all three things together without going mad atm my DH is doing the work outside the house and I'm doing all the housework and childcare (whilst on maternity leave) and this works out great for us.

mishw Sounds like you are one of the natural people with a real lovely house

paulaplumpbottom · 29/04/2007 14:29

I think its great. I don't usually post on this thread but do the mission everyday and clean as I go and my house and family have reaped the rewards. I think its a great website

mishw · 29/04/2007 20:49

No, No, No - its only what I try and do every day, doesn't mean I succeed!!!

BabiesEverywhere · 29/04/2007 22:08

mishw LOL, I try too One day I'll get there
