Have a nice large kitchen/diner/family room that desperately needs painting (as does the rest of the house ) we have magnolia paint everywhere as house was renovated prior to us buying it but as is the case the magnolia now looks "dirty" so need to paint - the kitchen being the most ready for a new coat of paint - anyway! as its quite a big room would it look cold if i painted it white? I'm looking for something easy to keep clean but nice and bright as well - any opinions?

We inherited lots of brilliant white - in the hall stairs and landing, kitchen and boys' bedroom, but personally I'd go for an off-white unless your room is very modern. If you wanted to inject some colour, do a feature wall?

Any colour is easy to keep clean if you get wipeable paint (Dulux RealLife or similar)
White could well look cold cold though - depends which way it faces as north-facing rooms are more susceptible to this, ditto east-facing ones that are bright in the morning then gloomy all afternoon.

How about a light yellow? Dulux have a fabulous Virtual Decorator to help you try colours out.

thanks for the link! am off to try it now - room is south west facing with 3 large windows so lots of light - i am "scared" of colour though so thats why white appeals!

I think all white in south west facing room would be fab.
All the rooms in my house are white.

that web site is fab ! i do like the idea of white with a pale grey feature wall at the end - will put a pic on my profile if i can work it out in a minute!
