Help - carbon residue on silk stocking

Please does anyone have any bright ideas on how to get carbon stains out of my lovely silk Christmas stocking. I somehow managed to get coal all over it when stoking up the fire. Google is not being helpful.

I don’t want to start messing around with vinegar as I have a feeling it will completely ruin the silk. Any help would be much appreciated!

I'd try something that will lift or brush it off, so a lint roller, maybe even the vacuum cleaner nozzle if someone holds the Christmas stocking for you, or a soft clothes brush. If you wet it, it's likely to be more difficult to get out.

Hoover. Good idea, thank you wowfudge. Will report back.
