Help! Black shoe polish exploded on the carpet!

Please help! “D”H just managed to explode a bottle of black shoe polish all over our cream carpet. It’s splattered everywhere. We’ve put loads of vanish on it and it’s faded a bit, so we’ll leave it overnight to see how it does, but does anyone have any more tips?! Thank you!

DH walked CV joint grease all through our house. Our insurers told us that they would have paid for professional cleaners who could probably have got it out but we ruined the pile trying to clean it ourselves so they had to replace the lot. DD2's bedroom carpet was only two months old
