Why does my hoover smell of burning

everytime I use it? It was only bought in Feb/March this year. Its an upright Hoover (hate it so much! but couldnt afford a replacement Miele) I have checked the bag is not full, the filters are clear, and yet it still makes an awful burning smell. I am wondering if its because I am using paper hoover bags and not the HEPA fabric filter ones. I put washing poweder in my hoover bags as it helps with any pet smells. Could this be the reason?

Hair on the brushes?

The friction can cause the hair to start smelling like its burning

Hi, I had a similar problem with my old Hoover and it turned out it was damp inside, could you have gotten liquid inside?

The brushes need cleaning, they are probably making the band slip that holds them on then smells like hell if not turning the bushes properly.
