good news, the local council has just announced that due to a high number of complaints about maggots, flies and bad smells our food recycling bins are to be emptied weekly.bad news is that we have to wait until next year for this to take effect as there in not enough money in the budget to do it this year.

do you recycle food? blimey ours won't even take cardboard

i recycled food waste in one of those green "food waste" bins for a month. they were disgusting. stank and the emptiers left trails of food on the pavement.

i know i should for the environment etc etc but for me it was a step too far.
ours won't even take cardboard or plastics - they do take paper, tin and glass, all have to be sorted into separate crates/bags etc. Honestly, they don't make it easy. whinge over.

we have bins for food and cardboard, bin for stuff that cant be recycled, box for glass and plastic milk containers and a box for newspapers and tins, have to sort everything out before we chuck it.

All the houses round here look so messy with all the recycling bins. We've got big brown one for food & garden, purple box for glass, black box for plastic, green box for paper and a big green one for anything else! I know its the right thing to do, but it takes ages to sort everything out on bin day! Oh and a small brown one for the kitchen that you can then transfer to the big one outside!

my parents live in Esher and they have 3 bins

  1. recycled waste (glass, paper, tin, cardboard, plastic)
  2. all other waste
  3. garden waste

That is it.
how good is that?
