OMG - fleas!!! and we don't even have a pet

almost changed my name but decided to be brave...

We seem to have a flea infestation - all of us have been bitten over the past couple of weeks and whilst I loosely suspected fleas I thought it might be from the very friendly sheep in our field, rather than in the house. Unfortunately we do seem to get bitten indoors too and I actually spotted a flea today on the floor in the d/s loo.
We don't have any pets (other than a hamster, and they don't get fleas) and have wooden or tiled floors, apart from the stairs.
Can I tackle this myself or do I call pest control on Monday?

Fleas can live in grass I think so they may have come into the house on you ?

We have some spray from the vets that kills fleas for a year on your soft furnishings maybe that is worth a try?

Before we had cats we moved into a house with inherited fleas that were so bad that we had to get pest control out to deal with them.

I think the spray we have is called 'spraykill' I don't think it is THAT potent in comparison to some - you only need to vacate the area for 15 mins or so as I recall. It must work as we don't ever have flea problems anymore (I ALWAYS get bitten when fleas are about)
