Machine washing sofa cushion covers?

Hi,

Has anyone washed their sofa covers in the washing Machine? Sofa came from DFS a couple of years ago and has removable covers on the seats and scatter back.

Am due my first baby within the next couple of weeks and really want to clean the sofa but DP isn't sure if it's a good ideal to pit them in the washing machine.

I was going to do it in a delicate wash and put them inside other pillow cases. Any suggestions?

Until now I have always just sponge cleaned and used febreeze on them but I think crazy nesting is kicking in

Realistically don't want to wait on a company coming in to clean it if I can do it myself but will do this if needed.

Yes I have done similar with my sofa seat and scatter cushions on 30deg wash to avoid shrinkage and they came up well. Turned them inside out for washing.

Mine is DFS about 7 years old.
Covers are removable and say dry clean only.
I've washed them several times with now issues.

Mine are in the tumble dryer as we speak.
Not dfs though. I wash mine every 3 months of so, I used to get a man in to steam sofas but honestly the washing machine does a better job.

Washed mine ( heavy cotton mix) dont know how many times, all the covers and cushions come off and are washed at 30dgs with colour washing powder and a little FC.

Put on line (never put them in the dryer, as instructed) then when still a little damp put back on for the best fit.

Oh and they are all Tetrads, one 20 years old the other 23 years old fantastic and still look good!

@Coconutwater1 that was my next question if I had to put them back on whilst they were still a bit damp! Is that to stop them shrinking?

We bought a bargain Laura Ashley sofa off eBay not realising the fabric is silk. And supposedly not to be washed in the machine. I did it anyway and they were absolutely fine on a 30 degree cycle. I air dried them rather than using the tumble drier though. If it's synthetic fabric it will definitely be ok OP, just don't wash hot.

Yes I did on a low wash but I didn’t tumble dry but sun dried (or id put on radiator in winter). They came out a treat!

Yes, it makes it a lot easier to get them on when they are a little damp to get the fit nice and tight. If I leave them to dry out its a bloody nightmare to get them to fit correctly, lots of heaving and huffing and puffing!

Mine come with metal screw things that you put through the fabric into the body of the sofas to keep the shape.

I wash my laura Ashley sofa covers on a 20 degree delicate wash once s year or so. I give them a good stretch when they are still wet, and they have never shrunk.

I used to wash the Tetrad loose covers at full heat twice a year because it was a white sofa, and replace them just before they were completely dry. No shrinkage problem at all, but eventually the armrest wore to a tattered shred. Now relocated to child's bedroom with a blanket covering the worn area, but it's still quite white, if not pristine.

You’re not supposed to do it unless rhey are marked washable, it ruins the fire protection safety material stuff it’s treated with. You should get an upholstery cleaner person in. They usually do carpets also, won’t cost much and you keep the safety stuff intact.

Keeping a white sofa pristine is quite an achievement ! Mines is grey and I seem to struggle with that lol.

I usually would have gotten someone in @bluntness but it was one of those things when I got it in to my head I had to do it there & then! Luckily has worked out ok
