New dishwasher

Hi all,

Our dishwasher has helpfully broken right after getting back off holiday. Has anyone got any recommendations for a new freestanding one? I've looked at a couple which I have linked below.

The most basic Bosch - it's a workhorse. Mine's like new after at least once a day use on basic, quick programme and a dishwasher cleaner cycle on hottest/longest wash once a month or so. I was told that whilst the more expensive models have more features the innards and tech are pretty much the same. Thanks Bingo - ours went downhill after only 2 years so if you're is still working like new at 4 it must be a good model!

Ours is a Bosch, about £400 and still works after 3 years. It did smell of chemicals when it arrived which is mentioned in some of the reviews, but a few hot washes and plenty of vinegar sorted it out.

One thing though, it doesn't dry stuff on any cycle.

bingohandjob is spot on with the clean cycle and usage. We run once or twice a day and have been fine in our hard water area.

Get a delayed start feature though so you can pack and run o/night to unpack the next day. That way you can set after dinner and put extras in before bed but if you forget the extras it will run anyway. I don't think we use anything other than "eco" which works fine.

A cutlery tray above all the others is a good idea, we have one in the washer in the place we rent out on airbnb at the moment, but people get confused and don't remember it's there!

bingohandjob we have the exact same model as you my mother in law had it for 4 years we have had it for 2 years and still going like new

I've a similar Bosch to the one in OP's link. It's four years old and we've never had a problem with it. It's lovely & quiet too. The Bosch it replaced lasted for 18 years, so I decided to go for the same brand again.

We have (...had...) a Bosch, which has also just died. Only c 3 or 4 years old. The dishwasher repair man said he would never get a bosch for himself as he sees so many which are irrepairable. He said Miele are the best but if buying for himself would go for AEG. He said they also make John Lewis own brand. Any owners of aeg or jl able to comment? I want a silver one.

We now have a basic Miele which is fantastic. It was the same price bracket as the higher-end Bosch and worth every penny. We previously had a Bosch which stopped working after a power cut mid-cycle one day and was irreparable. We were then given a fairly new Beko from relatives who were resigning their kitchen and didn't need it, but it destroyed the glaze on our mugs & plates, etc so had to get rid of that and decided to bite the bullet and go for the Miele. AEG would have been my second choice - our other appliances are AEG & Miele and all are very good.

*redesigning not resigning. I would like to resign from my kitchen somedays.

Check the capacity. Just moved house and inherited a SMEG. Rubbish: can't fit in our dining plates. Some brands do bigger dishwashers now with bigger capacity.
