I have a Bosch which is 9yo and no probs. Must have got it cheap as don't own any other German brands! I got a fridge for 31.00 on eBay the other day. It's fine.

Many freezers aren't suitable for use in a garage. I think most Beko are.

Why wolfie? Mine was in cellar, now in garage.

Wolfiefan · 15/09/2017 18:20

It's to do with ambient temperature. Many can't function if the air temp falls below 15•C

Oh wow, ok. Will it's lasted ok and I can't remember the least time I defrosted it, prob 2 years ago when we moved.

It's not certain they will fail but I wouldn't buy one deliberately to put in a garage unless it stated it was suitable for this.

Older freezers are fine. It's down to the different coolant that is used now - more environmentally friendly, but they work within a smaller range of ambient temperatures. Beko use a coolant that's (apparently) unique to them, and are therefore fine to use in a garage or outbuilding without invalidating the guarantee.

Apparently if it's not recommended for garages/outbuildings your house insurance may not cover the contents if there is a problem with the freezer
