Dust Mites

I'm currently suffering with some sinus issues (just got prescribed some meds) and want to do a really deep clean at the weekend to see if that helps. What can I do, especially in the bedroom, to get rid of dust mites? I have a steam cleaner but rarely use it. Will steam cleaning pillows be enough or do I need to put them all in the wash? Does the Dettol laundry liquid help? Any ideas welcome to see if I can help clear up my breathing at night a bit

Hoover your mattress and divan base if you have one. Regularly. And yes I would wash the pillows.
Also recommend an air purifier to plug in. I got one for my sinus issues and allergies as it cleans the air and traps viruses , dust, pollen etc and helped me immediately

You can buy covers for your pillows and mattress that dust mites can't get through.

Damp dusting and having carpets cleaned will help.

After the deep clean, make sure you wash all bedding at 60 each time and DH has a clean pillow case every night which helps him.

I have a book about this - if you PM me your address I will put it in the post. it was years ago now but it really helped. some of it was a little extreme (get rid of carpets but I don't have them anyway).

  • vacuum everything including curtains and the mattress
  • damp dust all surfaces
  • wash all bedding, mattress protectors and pillow protectors on a cottons 60 cycle, not quick wash, with a bio or non bio powder. No liquds.
  • wash, vacuum or replace your pillows
  • keep the room well ventilated

Some brilliant advice here, thank you. Definitely lots of ideas and I'm quite looking forward to getting stuck in at the weekend.

I will have a look into air purifiers.

We have a Roman blind that came with the house and is probably 10 years old - wouldn't have thought of hoovering that but will give it a go in the interim. Looking to replace it once the room is painted in a few months.

Ktown - thanks for the kind offer. I'll give these suggestions a try first and see where that gets me
