Clothes never smell clean

Just that really. When pregnant I have an extreme aversion to any kind of scented washing detergent (any whiff would make me violently sick immediately) so for almost a year we were using a scent free rubbish sensitive one so our clothes smelt of nothing. Now we are using Persil liquid that you put in the drum and still nothing smells great. Mil uses the same product and all their clothes smell lovely (sometimes she washes DS1s clothes if he leaves something behind). What am I doing wrong? I put some washing machine cleaner through but it didn't make a difference. They don't smell bad, just not fresh either.

Does your mum also use a fabric softener?

I'm the same as you. My clothes don't have the lingering fresh, flowery smell either even after being line dried. However the tea towels in work that someone else washes smell divine for ages.

could it be that your washing machine needs cleaning? It may have a build up of old powder etc.

Run it empty on a hot cycle.

It could be that she uses fabric softener.
It could be how you dry stuff, longer it takes to dry the less it seems to smell fresh
