Marble work top

Moving into a house with a white marble work top. Do I only use cleaning agents like fairy liquid? Something soft?

Also will spices stain it. I.e. Turmeric, chili powder etc. what if I spill my red wine on it? (Although I do try to not spill wine!)

Anything acidic can etch marble so be extra careful with the wine. Warm soapy water should be all you use to clean it. Get a spoon rest - or just use a small plate - to put cooking utensils on. We had a marble worktop some years ago in a rented flat abroad. It was well worn through years or use so we were not too precious about it.
