So apparently fabric softener is carcinogenic?

My friend posted a link about this on Facebook.

Sadly, I'm addicted to the smell of clothes which have had added fabric softener.

However, I have developed eczema since I was 31. You have to wonder.

But if fabric softener is cancer causing then is washing liquid etc also?

Look it up on Snopes to see if it's a fake article

dementedpixie · 28/08/2017 19:21

Meh I'm not sure I woukd care if it was true. Most things probably are tbh

lottieandmia · 28/08/2017 19:21

Well this is what I was thinking pixie. Most products have chemicals.

Plastic is too. Meh, we all die anyway!

ReinettePompadour · 28/08/2017 19:26

I think pretty much everything has an opinion about it somewhere or other. I take everything with a pinch of salt....which is probably carcinogenic too and just carry on regardless.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 28/08/2017 19:26

Check the source.

Carcinogenic how? If ingested? At what dose? Are they saying you need to drink 50 litres a week for 50 years and your risk might increase?

Is it just Facebook scaremongering horseshit?

BeeFarseer · 28/08/2017 19:29

Popcorn is carcinogenic. Popcorn lung is a real thing! Pretty much everything is carcinogenic.

I've had cancer and can't get too worked up about what caused it, because no-one has the ability to know that. Panicking about carcinogens, well, that way madness lies. For me, anyway.

dementedpixie · 28/08/2017 19:30

www.snopes.com/dryer-sheets-full-of-toxic-chemicals/ think this mentions some of the chemicals in that article

NomDePlumeReloaded · 28/08/2017 19:32

That website isn't rigorous scientific research. It is a biased source. It states that certain compounds found in fabric softener cause certain death thunderclap . What they don't state is the levels at which these things become toxic to humans (clue: not the vanishingly low levels found in laundry liquids).

badbadhusky · 28/08/2017 19:38

Try this blog, which keeps tab on what the Daily Mail claims causes cancer: www.anorak.co.uk/288298/tabloids/the-daily-mails-list-of-things-that-give-you-cancer-from-a-to-z.html/ Short version: EVERYTHING!

badbadhusky · 28/08/2017 19:39

Oddly, fabric conditioner is not on that list.

PacificDogwod · 28/08/2017 19:41

Life is carcinogenic Grin

As it happens I cannot stand fabric conditioner, but these scare mongering stories really piss me off.
I need to get a life....

lottieandmia · 28/08/2017 21:09

Yes I agree. Most things are damaging. And yes good point - in what amounts?

Ktown · 28/08/2017 21:12

Most fragrances - in high enough doses - are carcinogenic. But you would have to be drinking it to start having an effect.

lottieandmia · 28/08/2017 21:31

Yes I mean what about perfume?
