Have just been a n*b and spilt a whole tub of paint on my hall carpet. I have scooped most of the paint back in the tub and wiped up the excess. Then tried scrubbing with washing powder, then washing up liquid but it won't budge

Am sooooo bardy clumsy

What type of paint is it - Emulsion or gloss or egg shell?

drosophila · 01/04/2007 18:44

Egg Shell or gloss and you will need white spirits.

Matt emulsion which I assumed would be easy to shift.

are you insured?

EmilyDavidson · 01/04/2007 18:46

If its water soluable then you need to get a vax or similar on it before it sets. Start knocking on your neighbours doors because someone will have one. It will get it out if you keep going over the area

EmilyDavidson · 01/04/2007 18:48

btw just use water dont use the shampoo in it

megandsoph · 01/04/2007 18:50

Nopee misdee not insured That will teach me lol

People round here won't even lend out their lawnmowers so not sure they would lend me a vax

Just so glad it wasn't on the babys new carpet

Think I may just have to save up for a new carpet.

Stacks of water, then soak it up with old towels, repeat again and again and again. might work as it is water soluble before it dries. Like washing apaint roller - takes ages to get all the paint out. It'll be messy though

Can you stick a rug over it??

megandsoph · 01/04/2007 19:18

Have just been having a wee go at the water and mopping soupy and it isn't playing.

Its right by the door of the bathroom door not sure it would look right with a rug.

Am going to save my pennies and see if I can find some roll ends to re do it.

Oh bum. It works with smaller spills. What a PITA.

megandsoph · 01/04/2007 19:42

Aye

Thanks for the advice though

The cat has pulled a fair bit of the carpet on the top step, so on a positive note I think A new one will be nice.

i'm probably far too late but i spilt half a pot of orange paint on a beige carpet once. it did come out with JUST WATER. it took ages but it eventually came out. not sure it would work if the paint had dried though.
