Anybody have a soda stream?

I drink a lot of fizzy water and want to cut down on my plastic bottle usage. Any advice on soda streams? I've had a quick look on line, they seem quite expensive plus the gas canisters seem to cost a lot. It looks like it would be a lot cheaper just to buy bottled water from the supermarket.

I have a SodaStream for the same reason as you - at the time lived on my own and was getting through a six-pack of 500ml bottles of sparkling mineral water a week. That was in 2010.

Honestly, it's one of the best things I ever bought. It was around £60 including one full gas canister. Financially - my 500ml bottles of supermarket own sparkling mineral water were 26p each so 52p/litre and a gas canister refill is £12 at Lakeland which provides 60L of homemade fizzy water so that's 20p/litre. It was a saving of £48/year so it paid for itself very quickly. I now have a husband and we get through about twice as much of the stuff so savings are even greater! I find it tastes as good or better than commercial sparkling water and it's so convenient. Plus it really saves on my recycling bin now I don't need to buy bottled sparkling water.

Definitely get one! Smile

I bought one also for the same reasons as you! It was £40 4 years ago. Very worthwhile, go for it. Also handy for making sparkling wine Grin

Got one as a Christmas present about 5 years ago. We've replaced it last year becsuse it broke and didn't think twice about it. It's definitely paid for itself on sparkling water and it great not up have to lug on the heavy bottles of water and then recycle them.

They're all much of a muchness I think: they all work with the same mechanism - so be guided by looks and price! I bought the cheapest SodaStream available at the time and it's still going very nicely 7 years later. It's a bit like this one now available -
