Please help! Fish smell in kitchen drawers

I was cooking smoked fish the other day, popped out of the kitchen and when I came back the pan (which contained fish and milk) had boiled over. There was milk all over the cooker, down the drawers, inside the drawers, all over the worktop and floor.

I have cleaned and cleaned but it seems fishy milk has seeped into the MDF/wood in the drawer unit and there's an awful smell every time I open it.

Please can anybody help with advice on how to get rid of it?

Thank you.

Attached is a photo of where the unit has split due to soakage. This is definitely where the pungent whiff is coming from.

Pull the strip off. Disinfect all the surfaces. Stick the strip on when everything is dry.

Or, if not plastic strip that is come away.

Chip/sand off loose bits and then disinfect. Then varnish with clear varnish when dry.

Bicarbonate of soda is very good at soaking up smells, put bowls of it inside the cupboard/drawers for a few days

Thank you for the tips. Will definitely use them. I can't leave it as the smell is only getting worse. It's put me right off cooking fish on the stove again.
