Good wood polish

We have a wooden dresser that has been left in our vacant house for years. When we returned home I have cleaned it (surface cleaning!). Now we are moving house and we will take it with us to our new house and put it on show. I want to take it out from the wall, remove all the bits on it and really give it a good clean down. I need a really good cleaning agent (as we had damp which has been fixed now) and then a good furniture polish i.e. Not a spray polish. Can anyone recommend what I can use to clean this unit up and make it naice in my new house please as I want to show it off in my new big kitchen (stealth boast).

Is it varnished?

Assuming it's not varnished, I've used brillo pads on old pine before very successfully, and then I wax with silk Lavender Wax Polish Non Silicone 100ml [[www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006BHPEKC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_.evLzbJG07TG1?tag=mumsnetforum-21 Wood Silk]]

I've used the non silicone lavender wax polish too,it's good.

I have used wire wool in similar situations.

That stuff is really good.

Again, asssuming it isn't varnished. I'd probably clean it and give it a good dose of linseed or danish oil. Danish oil 'feeds' the wood and brings out the grain but doesn't leave it shiny or darken it. You'll need to re-danish it every year or so. I do my wood with Method wood polish (smells like marzipan) to keep it nice. It doesn't coat it in plastic like Mr Sheen and cheaper ranges.

I like liquid gold. I think you can get it at Lakeland.

Another vote for liquid gold.
