Laundry cupboard sorter thing or other solution

I have three baskets darks, whites, coloured and they take up so much room in the spare room. My kids are little so they don't have a cupboard or basket in their rooms.

Has anyone got some kind of compartment cupboard thing where it's all contained but sorted. There's got to be something clever storage solution out there?!

Appreciate this isn't what you asked, but I haven't divided laundry in years and nothing has run. If I have new colours or darks I put a sheet of colour catcher in the first wash and that catches any excess dye.

One laundry basket would take up less space!

We have one of these and it fits up against th bannister on the landing, between all the bedrooms. Kids have been trained to sort out their colours.

1 basket is about the same size as our washer drum, so when 1 section is full, the washer goes on.

We have a seperate, smaller washing basket in the bathroom for dirty towels

Ok thank you. I would like a sort of cupboard.
I separate underwear and wash hot. Also I separate the whites and was hot. Then I do my colours mostly the kids at 40 but still sort in blues and greens and pink red orange and this means sorting as I go or I have the whole lot on the floor every time. I did try mixing and colour catchers but I do find I have crisper colour for longer this way. I also found the price of colour catchers seemed to go up a lot. But I'm always going to separate out pants and towels and t towels for hot washes as I don't think it's sanitising these loads sufficiently unless line drying or tumble drying or using disinfectant and I don't want to do that always.
Sorry I am a bit crazy with the laundry I know I am Grin

I reckon you want to make an ikea Algot storage system. There's a pretty useful online planner (or there used to be) which I used when we did up our utility room.

RelaxMax · 16/08/2017 17:01

Wow ok that's a lot more sorting than I could be fussed with!

Would an Ikea kallax work? Each cube could have a pretty fabric or wicker basket for a separate category and one basket would prob be roughly a washload?

Oooh thanks that's helpful. I do have a bunch of ikea trones in the garage I was thinking of trying this as I don't have cash to splash but think they are only about half a loads worth capacity. The Kallax thing could work for a spare room as not utility looking hmmmm.....
