I need to move at speed and on a budget, so need to find a mattress. Is the ikea hovag any good?

We have two of these and like them. Esp if the bed frame is a slightly snugger fit, they are v comfy.

Bloomed · 13/08/2017 14:34

Great! Do you have the firm or medium firm? I think I'll be getting an ikea double bed frame, hopefully that'll be snug. Do you have ikea beds?

One of each Smile and I prefer the firmer one on ds' bed. If he goes to a sleepover I love to sleep in his room lol. Tbh our bedframes were already in our flat so I'm not sure where they're from.

Bloomed · 13/08/2017 14:51

Oh good. That's one decision made. I'm all over the place. Did you need to air the mattresses long before using?

OP posts:
RatsInTheWalls · 13/08/2017 15:16

Um.... I didn't air them at all.. is that a thing??

YellowLawn · 13/08/2017 15:19

I find them smelly for a day or two.
but generally ikea matresses are good quality and last ages.

icecreamfairy · 13/08/2017 15:19

I bought a foam one recently from Ikea and it comes rolled up. The instructions say to open it up and leave for 72hrs before using. I think it just needs time to air and fully expand having been tightly rolled. Sure it wouldn't be a disaster if you needed to use it sooner though!

RatsInTheWalls · 13/08/2017 15:26

Whoops Grin Mine smelt fine and I'm really funny about smells!!

Bloomed · 13/08/2017 15:32

Good. Phew. Does anyone have a malm bed and ektorp sofa. I think this will be a onestop shop Gin

I have a holiday property with two Sultan mattresses on Malm bed frames. I find them comfy and a fraction of the price of my home mattress which I would also recommend wholeheartedly but was MUCH more expensive.

hiimmumma · 13/08/2017 15:45

We have one medium-firm with a mattress topper and it's amazing.
Never had a bed this comfy in my life.
BUT it is high and the fitted sheets struggle to get round it all

YellowLawn · 13/08/2017 15:57

malm is quite a low bed, but just fine.
we had an ektorp sofa when we were in rented. it's good sturdy sofa for a good price and no rediculous delivery delay

Bloomed · 13/08/2017 16:03

Thanks. I can't see the sultan mattress online. I wonder what it was replaced with? I had been looking at john lewis basics range for stuff, but can't afford a delay of any kind.

We have this one www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/mattresses/mattresses-toppers/hamarvik-sprung-mattress-firm-dark-beige-art-00258721/

We brought it as needed a mattress that day and had a small budget. Brought with a view to buying a more expensive one but it's been great. Very comfortable. Went out and replaced the dc mattresses with the same model as well and they all say how comfy they are.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 13/08/2017 16:11

It came rolled and was delivered in the morning. I unwrapped it and left it until the evening to put sheets on. It did smell a bit chemically in the bedroom for a few days but soon went.
Have had ours for around two years now and still comfortable.

WorrisomeHeart · 13/08/2017 16:13

Ektorp sofas are great - we've had a 2 and a 3 seater for about 8 years and they're still going strong despite being used as a trampoline by two raucous kids.

Bloomed · 13/08/2017 16:22

I love the idea that the ektorp covers are washable and can be replaced etc. So now it's between the hamarvik and hovag mattress ... Does ikea ever have any rewards system/vouchers? I expect they don't reduce their most popular stuff.

you can get an ikea family card, that would mean discount on some things & insurance. and free food in the restaurant

Bloomed · 13/08/2017 16:26

Free food ...

Christmastree43 · 13/08/2017 16:29

I also have had a hamarvik for about six months now and no complaints so far, it came rolled up so was easy to transport and I slept on it that same night and doesn't seem to have been an issue Smile

Peachyking000 · 13/08/2017 16:32

Just don't make the mistake I made - I unrolled mine before carrying it up 2 flights of stairs, for some unfathomable reason. I love it though (Sultan). Really comfy, though as it's quite deep, it's a pain putting fitted sheets on.

exLtEveDallas · 13/08/2017 16:37

We've had our Ektorp sofas for 13 years now and they are still going strong. Have had 4 house moves, 3 different covers and still feel as good as new.

We've also got mattresses, foam ones, on both our bed and DDs bed. DD finds hers hard but I like ours a lot. Luckily she's got a bed with an under sleeper so uses both mattresses and she's happy.

Bloomed · 13/08/2017 17:12

Peachy that sounds like something I'd do.

OP posts:
fluffiphlox · 13/08/2017 17:42

IIRC the Sultan wasn't the cheapest Ikea mattress but maybe the next one up? Anyway still going strong in the holiday flat.

Bloomed · 13/08/2017 17:58

Thanks fluffiphlox. Sounds like ikea are pretty good quality.
