Two single ottoman beds joined together?

This is my last resort!
I have never posted on here before but need advice from anyone who has a single ottoman bed.
DH and I have decided to get 2 single mattresses joined together to get a better night's sleep. Before our baby arrived one of us could disappear into the spare bedroom when the other was tough to sleep alongside.
We can't get a king size bed because it would be too long. We also need storage under the bed but if we got drawers we couldn't use them all because the bed is in an alcove and we couldn't open the pillow end set!
So, ottoman beds seem the best solution. However it looks like there is always a lip on the side - this means the mattresses won't sit flush in the middle.
Can anyone confirm this? Or if anyone has any ideas I would be massively grateful!

Hmm can you get one ottoman double/king frame and put two single mattresses on top? You can get mattresses made to specific sizes if needs be.

Thanks for the response - the frame would be too long - king frames are longer than singles so we wouldn't be able to fit it in the room ☹️

I think you can get ones that zip together. I expect you'd always have an uncomfortable join in the middle though

Why does it have to be an ottoman? We have metal and wooden bed frames and some of them have hardly any gap from mattress to end of the frame. You have lots of space underneath for storage in boxes.

Have you tried having two duvets?

We each have a duvet and can each 'tuck ourselves in' down the middle which stops us crowding each other and it prevents the duvet theft wars.

And have you googled short king size bed?
There are beds that are the length of a single (6'3") but king sized width. Why don't you just get one of those?

These guys do them for example

Ohh I see sorry I thought you wanted two separate mattresses so you didn't disturb each other as much. But you just want a short, wide one? Depends on your budget but perhaps a bespoke built bed and mattress is your best bet. Otherwise, two single beds with storage boxes as pp said? Our underbed drawers have shorter ones at the head end so that you can still open them even if you have a bedside table, so might work with your alcove? Good luck!

If you search for ottoman divans, these have the base exactly the same width as the mattres. I recently bought a 4ft ottoman divan for my son and it comprises of two ottoman boxes joined together and the mattress sits on top. The two boxes bolt together through the sides for stability.

Sorry meant to add a pic.

Wow - thanks everyone for your messages.
We have tried 2 duvets but my husband is very sensitive to my moving so we have decided we need 2 mattresses - we sleep OK in hotels where 2 singles are joined together.
We want an ottoman because it allows tidy storage.
I will take a look at all the links thanks everyone! X
