Washing school uniform?!

Does anyone else wash brand new school uniform before September? One of my very organised friends has just said all of her children's new uniforms have been washed, ironed and labelled.
Am I scummy mommy for not washing the brand new stuff before my children wear it??!! BlushConfusedGin

Umm toughie.

Offical advice is that ANY clothing, whether for children or adults, is meant to be washed before wearing.

Chemical residues from loose dyes, finishes/coatings on fabrics, the dust/dirt in warehouses, store rooms and shop floors and the umpteen times it has been handled (and even possibly tried on) before you buy it. It certainly is far from clean.

Do I wash every item of new clothing? almost never most of the time, not always though.

Yes it all gets bought (big to last a year) washed, ironed, labelled and put away. If their old uniform fits still (first year this has happened DS 10) then I buy the next a size up and store it ready. PEs get washed and packed by middle of holiday. Shoes are left till last 2 weeks of holiday due to growing. I can't stand the last minute rush.

I never do. No one's been ill yet.

Yes.

Mine are back on Tuesday but both their uniforms were washed, dried and ironed last week. New lunch boxes and water bottles were also washed before going in the cupboard.

I admit though, I'm one of the few people I know but since I came across a top which smelled quite strongly of piss in my younger days and being assured that it was "probably rat rather than human" from transit new clothes give me the boak...

Thanks everyone!! Iv still got a few weeks left before she goes back. So il see what the weather is doing before I start washing a tone of uniform.

Anything I buy new including uniforms, clothes, bedding, towels etc get put in the washing machine before they're worn or used, they come from the factory covered in so many chemicals and things to keep the items looking good on the shelves.

I also wipe over new furniture when I buy it, and cannot wait to steam and hoover new floors when they've been put downSmile I have a thing about new stuff coming into the house, they have to be cleaned to my standards or its always in my mind about who/what has previously touched it Confused

I do wash new uniform as the shirts especially can be quite stiff and uncomfortable if worn without washing. Mine are washed and ironed but ours schools go back next week. I labelled using a laundry pen this year
