My dd has a lot of now manky looking school socks. Anyone know the best way to make them white again? How do you bleach clothes? Thanks Smile

Laundry bleach. I like Ecover's.

If you can, leave them in strong direct sunlight (I know, chance would be a fine thing). If that doesn't work, nothing will!

They are out on the line now, but I think they'll need more than that! Thanks will look for the ecover stuff

Sounds mad, but a dishwasher tablet in the drum of the washing machine with your whites will makes them as white as the day you bought them. It has to be the type of tablet with the white crystals in them (most are like this these days). I've used it on manly grey canvas trainers too, and it always works.

*manky, not manly. Although the trainers are of a manly size.

These are all very interesting tips! Watching with interest Grin

Depends why they have gone manky, but if its just dirt (as opposed to being washed too hot or being washed with something dark coloured) a soak in Napisan does wonders

Soak overnight in biological washing powder (not liquid) with a tablespoon of soda crystals added.
Then put them through the wash with the bio powder on a long, hot wash - 60 degrees minimum and not quick wash.
Don't use fabric softener as this makes clothes look much duller

Thanks all, will get experimenting
