Moving house - advance prep?

So we'll be moving house in a few months - flat to a house. Journey between them will be at least 3 hours ... never moved house like this. Last time I moved it was flatshare to partner and we got it all in the boot of a hire car!

What should I be starting to do now - declutter I get. Though I'm struggling to face the loft... we're planning another child so I don't want to chuck all the baby stuff but of course we may never need it....

I'm assuming anything still in the fridge/ freezer will need to be binned. Should I try and empty the kitchen cupboards as much as possible too?

What else should I be thinking about?

No, they will just load the fridge and the freezer last, and they will stay cold whilst you move. I mean, obviously don't leave half open bottle of milk that's going to fall whilst it is lifted, but keep the freezer fairly full and it will look after itself. Fridge stuff you can chuck in a freezer bag for the journey.
Sort through the loft and put stuff you are keeping, labelled, into boxes / suitcases so they are all ready to go.
Always got to be worth a rummage in the cupboards, yes, to see if you can declutter various gadgets you never use, but you can't live on scarce rations for 6 months so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

We are in a similar situation, moving in the next few months (hopefully)
I've been de cluttering like mad!
Going through one cupboard or drawer a day and only keeping what we use/really want to keep
So when the time comes for packing everything I know everything we have we want if that makes sense!
Also have been packing a few bags of clothes, stuff I don't wear often but don't want to get rid of
Good luck

My best move - had been in rental for 6 months so lots of stuff had been packed up and not seen for that time, new home had building work going on and skip in the drive when we arrived. I unpacked every box outdoors next to the skip. Probably less than 50% of our possessions made it into the house. Brilliant (although possibly not the most efficient way to do things).

Run down food stocks starting now. Take as little as possible with you assuming you aren't going to mars.

Make a list of all the people and institutions who will need an address change. Set up a redirect once you have exchange, then tick off after the move.

Major major stuff reduction. Kit for a possible next baby won't be that much. Be ruthless!
