Out of curiosity, how often do you wash/change:
-- bath towels/wash cloths/hand towels/etc?
-- kitchen tea towels/dish cloths?

Hand /kitchen towels daily or if ive cleaned up something messy in the kitchen , bath towels we have our own use twice and wash

Mychildcouldnotbreaatfeed · 06/08/2017 15:52

Bath towels each have our own. I use mine twice. DD is incapable of hanging hers up and leaves millions festering on the floor. Boyfriend uses his to wipe around his shower cubicle after he's showered and puts it in the wash.

Kitchen cloths are old terry nappies and washed all the time. If I wipe up it goes in the wash. Don't use kitchen roll hardly at all though.

I'm slovenly by MN standards. Bath towels and hand towels weekly. Tea towels are mostly used for drying hands and are changed every two or three days. Cleaning cloths are washed after every use.

LIZS · 06/08/2017 16:11

Weekly

CremeEggThief · 06/08/2017 16:55

Bath and hand towels weekly and cleaning cloths after every use. Washing up and kitchen surface sponges every 3-4 days. No tea towels or hand towels allowed in my kitchen!

lettuceWrap · 06/08/2017 17:33

Daily for towels and at least daily for kitchen towels.

With bath/shower towels we would rather have a fresh one each time, but we use small towels so we can do that without increasing the amount of laundry we do by very much.
Obviously huge bath towels (4 or 5 x the size of the towels we use), changed daily would create a lot of laundry.

starfishmummy · 06/08/2017 17:43

After every use. Even if its just to dry hands. Thought everyone did.

crazypenguinlady · 06/08/2017 19:36

Thanks for the replies!

We wash bath towels twice a week, and wash cloths every few days.

Dish cloths and tea towels get changed most days, but never more than 2 days.

My friend (and I use that term loosely due to other issues) made me feel like a freak for doing it so often Confused she says she does hers every fortnight at the most and doesn't see the need to due it often as me, and I'm basically creating more work for myself. To me, it's normal to change them often, especially the kitchen stuff!

Ours get washed once a week. We haven't a separate hand towel in the kitchen. Tea towels don't get a lot of use as we have a dishwasher. The only thing I might wash more frequently (well I change them if smelly or dirty and still only do one hot towel wash a week) is dishcloths.

Doilooklikeatourist · 06/08/2017 20:20

Bath towels once a week or so ( we each have our own )
Tea towels and kitchen cloths are slung in the wash every day
New Sponge or kitchen scourer every week
We do have a dishwasher , so not much washing up by hand

DurhamDurham · 06/08/2017 20:25

A clean tea towel every day. Bath towels when I think they need it, usually the smell rather than the fact that they look grubby. We have our own towels, I'd probably wash them more often if we had to share.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 06/08/2017 20:29

I change mine pretty much on the same schedule as you, OP. I think that is normal too, I certainly wouldn't do it any less frequently, especially kitchen stuff as it would get really gross.

Achoopichu · 06/08/2017 20:32

Hand towels every useShock. Sounds a bit wasteful and unnecessary

RoganJosh · 06/08/2017 20:36

Bath towels about once a week
Don't use wash cloths
Hand towel in bathroom, every few days

Tea towels probably once a fortnight but they don't get used much. If I use them on the floor they go straight in the wash. There is a designated floor towel for bathroom.

Dish cloths are j cloths and get rinsed and squeezed and hung on tap. Nothing much is going to grow on a dry cloth. They get chucked when holey.

kingfishergreen · 06/08/2017 20:40

Bath towels twice or three times a week, hand towels the same, tea towels daily. We get through an ungodly number of tea towels, I've no idea how we do it.

ReinettePompadour · 06/08/2017 20:44

bath towels - every 3 days
wash cloths - daily (rarely used)
hand towels - daily
kitchen tea towels - daily sometime twice a day
dish cloths - weekly (rarely used)

64PooLane · 06/08/2017 20:48

How is it even possible to wash the hand towel after EVERY time anyone dries their hands? Don't you need about seven hundred hand towels just to stay on top of it? Is there a vast basket constantly full of slightly damp once-used hand towels awaiting laundering?

I usually use my main towel twice but then, I shower and wash hair daily/sometimes twice daily, so it doesn't hang about long.

Kitchen towels get washed frequently - we go through at least a couple of those each day as we wipe up wet surfaces etc. with them, and we don't use much kitchen roll.

Hand towels changed every day or so.

DC don't really use bath towels as they run about air drying or go straight into their lush towelling dressing gowns which are much nicer than mine, and those are washed a couple of times a week.

Floralnomad · 06/08/2017 20:51

Bathroom towels get washed after each use generally , although in my bathroom the hand towel may last a couple of days . Kitchen towels get washed every 2 days roughly .

BackforGood · 06/08/2017 20:59

Bath towels after about 5 days - a week
Hand towels, again, about weekly, but depends a bit on how many are in the house / how much use they are getting.
Tea towels - we don't use that often - I'll put it to wash if it is wet or if it occurs to me I've not washed them for a while, but I could have gone several days without using it.
Cloths - judge as I go along. Wash when look dirty or start to smell. Generally though I wash it out and spread to air each time it is used so doesn't need doing every day.

myusernamewastaken · 07/08/2017 08:15

Some people must spend 90% of their time doing laundry....why in gods name would you wash a hand towel every time someone dries their hands on it..

SaltLiquorice · 07/08/2017 08:36

I do almost the same as the OP but bath towels, hand towels probably washed 2, 3 times a week. I keep a kitchen cloth for wiping surfaces and that's changed on a daily basis. Same as kitchen hand towels and dish towels.

Chuck them in laundry room and wash all above together at 60 degrees whenever I have enough for a load.
