I just moved from the States to London, and would appreciate any advice about how to find a part-time house cleaner / housekeeper. I live in Soho, and am looking for someone who can come to the flat twice a week to do general house cleaning, laundry and ironing, and a few errands (drop-off and pick-up dry cleaning, buy cleaning supplies and toilet paper, etc).
There seem to be an endless number of Housekeeper / Cleaning Agencies. Is there any particular one I should use (or any I should avoid)? Or does anyone have a recommendation for someone I could hire directly? I'm looking for someone is proficient in English, reliable, and most importantly knows how to do laundry and care for clothes. I recently used an Agency for a one-off cleaning and the cleaner threw my bras and knickers in the dryer. It would be great to find someone who knows that delicates need hung dry, whites and darks need washed separately, vinegar whitens whites, fabric conditioner ruins lulu lemon leggings and makes them pill, etc.
I'm more than happy to pay above market for the right person.
