Electricity consumption doubled in last six months

Just that. We've been asked for meter readings and have just realised that our electricity use in the last 6 months has been more than that for the whole of the previous year.

We're stumped - no new household appliances, we haven't changed the settings on the heating or changed how much we use tumble dryer etc.
Nothing has changed in the household, same people living here, neighbours haven't changed.

Any ideas?

Turn everything off and see how much it changes. Your freezer won't defrost in say, 4 hours?. If it still goes up you need your meter checked for a fault. Maybe ask your supplier for a smart meter installation. You can visibly see your usage changing when you boil the kettle etc.

I'm with Ovo and I see our daily usage on an app and try to beat it for the next day. GrinI've managed to halve it by simply switching things off at the plug at night. Dryer, kettle, microwave and of course, tv and xboxes which bloody love sucking up power.

Thanks, will give that a try

If you've given meter reads but haven't previously supplied them then it doesnt mean the mount on your latest bill was all used in the last 6 months. If the bill starts from an estimated read the bill is a catch up bill and the energy you are being charged for could have been used at any point from the last actual (not estimated) meter read.

Any neighbours that might have fiddled with the supply?
