What do i use to stain doors?

We want to replace our internal doors, they are painted white at the moment and i fancy natural coloured wood ones.for how cheap they are to buy i can't be bothered with stripping the existing ones would rather start again with new ones.

what do i use to protect the wood from grubby fingermarks whilst still keeping the natural colour? i know most varnishes tend to darken the wood and thats not really the effect i was after.

any ideas?

You can use clear wax as an alternative to varnish. Wood tends to darken with age anyway, I think, due to the effect of sun light. You can buy finished wooden doors or, if you wax them yourself, allow 2 hours per coat per door - did one of ours just last night...

According to my DS, blueberries and raspberries are good for staining EVERYTHING
