Dehumidifier recommendations

Live in a flat with no windows in my bathroom or kitchen (I know, I hate it)
I have no garden, have a tumble dryer (washer dryer) but it takes so much electric so I tend to only run towels and bedding in there.

Wet clothes either go on an airer (summer) or radiatior (winter) and then I hang tops on hangers on curtain poles with windows open.
I'm trying to be prepared for winter as this will be our first one here but my last flat had terrible damp - not helped by the wet washing.
So looking for a decent humidifier that won't cost too much to run and isn't too big as I don't have lot of space (and cheap as poss)
Can't really leave the windows open all day as I live on the ground floor at the front of the complex

I have a fab Meaco ne in the kitchen.
www.amazon.co.uk/d/Dehumidifiers/Meaco-DD8L-Portable-Compact-Dehumidifier/B007X236NQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1500652501&sr=8-4&keywords=meaco+dehumidifier&tag=mumsnetforum-21

The decent ones aren't cheap, but this one is quiet and has successfully dried out the aftermath of burst pipes on two occasions, as well as keeping on top of condensation from baths, laundry, cooking etc

Thank you will have a look into that one Smile

Ebac make very good dehumidifiers. I have had mine for a long time so can't specify a model number. You might be able pick one up on ebay.

Franticfm · 23/07/2017 09:09

I have had the same Meaco DD8L model for two winters now. It has transformed my old damp solid wall bungalow into a lovely dry cosy home in winter plus has a clothes drying function if you need it.

Flamingale · 23/07/2017 09:44

Here's another vote for the Meaco DD8L. I got mine as it was a Which best buy.

It should suit you perfectly as it is compact and has a setting for drying washing.

Roundandroundtheapartment · 23/07/2017 19:33

Did you both have the same Meaco model for a long time - was just looking at some reviews on amazon and a few have said they've all but packed in after a year or 2

Eco Air Simple DD122 - bought from Amazon for the purpose of drying washing as am on 3rd floor hence no garden. Stopped using t.d after a few shrinking incidents.

AwkwardSquad · 23/07/2017 20:02

We've got an Ebac; we've had it for a few years now. Sturdy and reliable. We use it to keep condensation down especially in winter, and to dry laundry when it can't go on the line or in the dryer. It works brilliantly if you put the laundry and dehumidifier in a small room with the door closed.

SafeToCross · 23/07/2017 20:12

We have a fab whole house Meaco one. It pulls out so much (we dry a lot of clothes inside). We keep it near the wet laundry, downstairs, and the damp patches upstairs have now disappeared :) . I would replace it in a heartbeat if it broke, but 2 years running constantly its fine.

TuddlesAndSisses · 23/07/2017 20:17

We have an EcoAir simple (can't remember exactly which model) in our damp cellar and it's brilliant.

Flamingale · 24/07/2017 00:23

Sorry late in responding Ticktockshock. Had the Meaco DD8L for a few years and it's still working.

MrsBakedBean · 24/07/2017 10:32

Another vote for the Meaco DDBL. Had it a couple of years now. Bought from John Lewis.

Corneliussnitch · 25/07/2017 16:09

Another vote for Meaco , I have two use 1 to dry washing in my utility room. Ones a DD8 the other a platinum low energy one

Roundandroundtheapartment · 26/07/2017 13:40

Thanks everyone, looks like it's an almost solid vote for meaco!
