Using up cleaning priducts

I've pinched this idea from the style and beauty page.

I have so many cleaning products it's ridiculous. Lots half used. I'm moving house shortly so need to use a load of them up.

Does anyone else fancy joining in?

I'm moving too! Have half bottles of this and that and zoflora! Will be buying a whole new set of cleaning stuff for moving day (to clean new house) so I'm up for using what we already have!!!!!
Also need to start eating up the freezer food 😫😫

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 21/07/2017 21:33

I'm going to put all my cleaning products (spread in various cupboards at the moment) in a big tub and use them all up in my monster summer hols cleaning project! Then I will downsize to 2 or 3 perfect items that will do my whole house (and banish mess and crap too).

Mrstrumpalot · 21/07/2017 22:15

I must have every cleaning product known to man spread out in various cupboards all over the house. I can't even shut the cupboard under the sink properly and yet still end up buying more !

Can somebody suggest ONE cleaning product which will do the same job all over the house ( excluding windows). Does such a thing exist? Can you clean kitchen benches with the same product you would do the toilet and bath with? Do you need a tin of polish or can surfaces be wiped down with a damp cloth etc etc.

Neuroticwoman · 21/07/2017 22:25

I use 2! Domestos spray bleach for all bathrooms (I buy it in Poundland) and kitchen surfaces etc and method granite cleaner for the granite. Bleach down loos and method spray floor cleaners with steamer.
Actually that's 4 isn't it? Blush

AlternativeTentacle · 21/07/2017 22:37

i use splosh for everything. one citrus in the kitchen and the spearmint in the bathroom. i use the same stuff for the floors, and in the steamer.

user1499786242 · 21/07/2017 23:01

I use wetwipes for everything hahahahahaha

user1955 · 22/07/2017 10:42

I have a stash overtaking the shed, so I'm in. I prefer eco-products and seem to buy extras when they are on special offer, then forget I have them.

I have a question for those of you with just a few products please. What are your key products and what do you use each one for? I have so many different types and I think that is why it is getting out of control!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 22/07/2017 10:49

I started a thread searching for the elusive Holy Grail of cleaning products as I too suffer from over buying
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/housekeeping/2981052-Youre-only-allowed-ONE-cleaning-product-and-it-is?pg=1&order=

Trouble is, I want to go and buy what others recommend but I need to get my current stash used first!

AlternativeTentacle · 22/07/2017 10:52

have a question for those of you with just a few products please

I decided years ago to stop having so much chemical shite in my house. I used to make my own vinegar and citrus cleaning product and my own washing gloop. However Splosh do it for me now and all you have to do is add hot water to the cleaning refills and you are good to go. When you start to run out, you reorder the refills and they fit through the letter box.

I have two different fragrances for upstairs and down as I think citrus in kitchen is good, and mint in bathroom is good. That's the only reason. It is a spray so you spray on to clean, and I tip some in the steamer if I need to steam the floor, or spray on the floor if I am using the hand floor cleaner. As it is not abrasive, but made from natural stuff, you can literally use it for anything. Also it means no horrible smells from the cupboard.

If you want to have a small discount on getting started, my code is A84889.

Other than that, literally nothing else for cleaning. It does everything. I do not work for them!

user1955 · 22/07/2017 10:59

That looks good Alternative How much are the refills please? I couldn't see that on their site.

AlternativeTentacle · 22/07/2017 11:28

For those, £4.95 for 4 spray bottles worth...So £1.24 per spray bottle full.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 22/07/2017 11:35

Interesting alternative
I saw the price for refills but not that there were 4 in a pack.

It's certainly something to look into once I have used all my stash
(sometime in late 2019)

thenightsky · 22/07/2017 11:41

Stardrops with ammonia OR Cilit Bang Lime and Grime are good for most things like sinks, worktops, bathrooms, floors etc. I wipe round with a damp cloth for dusting and sometimes add a drop of Zoflora. Harpic 100% for inside the toilets.

That's 3/4 products for the whole house.

If I run out of anything, biological washing powder gets used instead.

Rinkydinkypink · 22/07/2017 11:46

I use bleach and zoflora for floors and toilets. Flash for everything else. I diluent it and put it in a spray for kitchen, use a stronger solution in bathrooms and rinse. I have vanish carpet cleaner for sofa and carpets/rugs.

That's it!

You rotters! Have just ordered a Splosh starter set without using up any of my old stash

AlternativeTentacle · 22/07/2017 12:55

You won't look back Coper. It smells like you could eat it. Fantastic stuff.

PlausibleSuit · 22/07/2017 13:04

I'm using up weird randoms left behind by various cleaners at the mo but generally I use a Zoflora/splish of vodka/water solution in a spray bottle for bathroom and kitchen surfaces, Ecozone ocean loo cleaner, and then Method wood polish for furniture and Method wood floor squishy thing for floors. Both Method things smell like almonds, they're lovely.

PlausibleSuit · 22/07/2017 13:04

Pfft. Squishy should be squirty.

CoperCabana · 22/07/2017 22:20

Sooooo excited for my Splosh order! What has happened to me? I am sure I used to be cool!

Mrstrumpalot · 22/07/2017 22:51

Coper... me too!
Alternative... thanks for code. Have ordered 4 bottle starter pack.

anahata · 23/07/2017 05:29

How's everyone getting on? Today mainly consists of starting to pack boxes, cleaning and taking stuff to the tip. And hopefully ebaying a few bits too.

I use a homemade mix of
½ cup of fairy liquid
1 cup distilled vinegar
And 3 cup's of water
I use this mix all over the house including toilets it's antibacterial and dissolves scum and and limescale
Before this i used every cleaning product in the aisle

PlausibleSuit · 23/07/2017 10:00

I've just opened a storage cupboard and found six bottles of hand wash. It seems OH - henceforth known as Lady Macbeth - bulk buys it 'for spares'. Stuff like M&S Rose and Bay, Scottish Fine Soaps Company and that chocolate orange one that Astonish do. FFS. I'm drowning in the stuff. I wonder if I can clean a bath with it.

Oh, and I'm trying that Zoflora in the vacuum thing today. I have a Dyson, I assume I just wap a soaked pad into the whirligig. We shall see.

Mrstrumpalot · 23/07/2017 10:40

Plausible.....can I have some of your hand wash please?!
Have just realised the only new bottle I have is a strawberry laces one which doesn't quite match the White Company hand lotion in the downstairs toilet!
